The SD LRRK2 Knockout Rat, available as part of The Michael J. Fox Foundation Parkinson's Disease Catalog, is a CRISPR/Cas9-generated model developed in collaboration with The Michael J. Fox Foundation featuring a deletion of the Lrrk2 gene (leucine-rich repeat kinase 2). Lrrk2 mutations are the most common monogenic cause of Parkinson’s disease, accounting for ~5-6% of familial and 1-3% of sporadic cases. Now available from Taconic Biosciences as of May 2026, this model supports research into Lrrk2 biology, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic development.
