A humanized CD98hc mouse model for evaluation of CD98hc-engineered central nervous system therapeutics. CD98 heavy chain (CD98hc, encoded by SLC3A2) is a multifunctional transmembrane protein that forms heterodimers with light chains to regulate amino acid transport and integrin signaling. It is vital for cell proliferation, adhesion, and survival, and is frequently overexpressed in cancers and used as a receptor for antibody-mediated drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). This model may be useful for receptor-mediated transcytosis of therapeutics across to the blood-brain barrier.

Origin
This model was developed by Taconic Biosciences. The mouse genomic region spanning Exon 2 to Exon 10 was selected for replacement with the corresponding human sequence. Codons A100–P107 (exon 2) and A526 (exon 10), which are conserved between species, were retained in their mouse form to maintain sequence continuity.
