- Inactivated Cd4 gene results in the elimination of cell surface expression of Cd4 on T cells.
- Differentiation of cells into the Cd4+ lineage is blocked and there is a decrease in class II restricted activities.
- Useful to study T cell differentation pathways into cytolytic or mature helper T cells.

C57BL/6 Origin:
Developed by N. Killeen in the Littman Lab at UCSF using D3 ES cells. Subsequently backcrossed at the Littman Lab to C57BL/6 for seven generations (N7). Homozygotes were transferred to Taconic in 1994 on behalf of the Reinherz Lab at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The line was embryo transfer derived at Taconic. Mice were backcrossed to the C57BL/6NTac strain to N12 to obtain a full congenic background. The model was maintained through homozygous breeding. Color:
