Since 1978, Taconic Rockville and its predecessor, Anmed/Biosafe, Inc., has earned a reputation for excellence as a leading laboratory animal diagnostic and testing laboratory. It has been a pioneer in introducing new health testing procedures for use by the laboratory animal industry. The facility is located in the center of Maryland's biotech industry. Taconic Anmed laboratory's founding scientist, Dr. Steven Weisbroth, DVM, ACLAM diplomate, developed and initiated use of a full-scale battery of tests to provide a comprehensive profile of laboratory animal health. Today such batteries of health-evaluation tests are in common use by diagnostic laboratories.

The laboratory in Laven, Denmark performs rodent health testing on all Taconic Europe animals and on customer-supplied animals.
