Microbiology

Taconic takes into consideration microbiological surveillance as part of a preventative health program. Sampling can provide early warning signs to the presence of bacterial contaminants, and can also independently validate the effectiveness of routine disinfecting procedures.

Taconic performs microbiological testing to evaluate the health status of small laboratory animals and analyzes samples collected from the environment (walls, floors, bench-tops, cages, etc.) using RODAC plates and culture swabs. Our experienced microbiologists culture the samples and perform the desired identification of microbes.

How to Submit Test Articles

• Fecal specimens for isolation of enteric pathogens, coccidia or helminth ova may be sent dry, in tubes or small containers.
• Fecals or rectal swabs for isolation of Campylobacter should be sent in semi-solid Campy Broth.
• Swabs should be sent in transport medium.
