Animal Delivery

Animal Delivery From U.S. Locations:

In the United States, Taconic operates four sites from which animals are shipped to clients. These sites are Germantown, NY, Albany, NY, Cambridge City, IN, and Oxnard, CA. Customers can request that their shipments be sourced from a specific Site and/or Barrier Unit location when they place their orders. The source Barrier Unit location can be determined by examining the Shipping Label on the Taconic Transit Cage™ (TTC™) in which their animals are delivered.

In the U.S.A., direct truck delivery routes include weekly or twice-weekly shipments throughout the Northeast, to eastern Canada, the Carolinas and the Midwest. On the West Coast U.S.A., weekly or more frequent deliveries are made to the San Francisco area, Los Angeles and San Diego. All direct deliveries are made in pre-sanitized trucks that are fully insulated and environmentally controlled to maintain proper temperatures in the animal holding compartments. Most direct deliveries are completed within twenty-four hours of the time the animals leave their Barrier Unit colonies.

United States and international air shipments are coordinated with air forwarders to give Taconic customers either same day or next day delivery. Domestic shipments are made through the local offices of air carriers who have worked with Taconic for several years and are accustomed to expediting shipments of live animals. Direct air flights to international locations are arranged from virtually every major airport in the Northeast and Los Angeles International Airport in California.

All Taconic rats and mice are packed in sterilized Taconic Transit Cages™ (TTC™s) to said page] prior to exiting from their Barrier Unit colonies. This assures that the animals' barrier environment is unbroken from the Taconic source Barrier Unit to the customer's receiving dock. An ad libitum water source is provided via either Transit Kits' TM or sterilized agar based gels. Commercial mice and rats are packed in TTC™'s in accordance with prescribed densities thus enabling customers to estimate the number of TTC™'s that will be used to fill their orders. Germfree animals are shipped in the Taconic Germfree Shipper. Shipments of mice and rats under contract to clients will be packed in accordance with client requirements.

Animal Delivery From European Locations:

In Europe, Taconic operates three sites in Denmark from which animals are shipped to clients. These Sites are Bomholt, Tornbjergvej and Hallingore. Customers can request that their shipments be sourced from a specific Site and/or Barrier Unit location when they place their orders or they can determine the source Barrier Unit location by examining the Shipping Label on the Taconic Transit Cage™ (TTC™) in which their animals are delivered.

Taconic has an extensive and regularly scheduled network of truck routes encompassing most of Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany. All direct deliveries are made in pre-sanitized trucks that are fully insulated and environmentally controlled to maintain proper temperatures in the animal holding compartments. Most direct deliveries are completed within twenty-four hours of the time the animals leave their Barrier Unit colonies. For world wide export, business air freight from Copenhagen or Billund Airport is used to service European customers within 24 hours from dispatch. For more distant destinations a longer transit time can occur. A client can choose to have the animals sent to the airport nearest their address and is then responsible for the transport from the airport to their facility (a door-to-airport delivery). Or a client can choose to have the animals delivered directly to their facility (a door-to-door delivery).
