The Taconic Transgenic Exchange is designed to meet the needs of investigators for access to genetically modified models. For developed models which are in widespread demand by the research community, Taconic distributes many genetically modified models as Taconic Transgenic ModelsTM (TTMsTM). For transgenic models that are still being characterized and developed, Taconic facilitates early distribution of the models via the Emerging Models Program (pdf 39kb).
This Program is based on collaborations between Principal Investigators (PI) and Taconic to improve and share new and developing transgenic rodent models within the world-wide scientific community. The PIs maintain breeding colonies of their Transgenic Models at Taconic for their own use.
As "Sponsors" in the Emerging Models program these investigators generously agree to share the model with other researchers on an "as available" basis subject to certain Conditions of Use (i.e. Material Transfer Agreements).
Emerging Models are generally distributed on the following basis:
Each Model meets Taconic's MPF health standard and is maintained under maximum barrier conditions at Taconic's Barrier Unit facility.
Each Model is subject to certain restrictions determined by the Sponsor. This may be in the form of a Label License or a Material Transfer Agreement. In some cases additional licenses may be necessary. Taconic's Customer Service Representatives will assist with you these requirements.
Access to Models may be subject to limited availability. The Sponsor determines the size of the production colony for the Emerging Model. The number of mice available for third party use therefore may be limited.
Investigators wishing to acquire access to these Emerging Models should contact Taconic Customer Service for availability and ordering information. The Emerging Models Listing indicates the transgenic models that are now available through the Emerging Models program. This listing references the sponsor, the gene of interest, the Taconic model number, the background strain and the field of application. Additional information, including pricing and MTA requirements, is available on the individual model pages, which may be reached by clicking on the Taconic Model Number.
Placement of a transgenic model in Taconic's Emerging Models program is available to the entire scientific research community: academic, government and industry. If you have a transgenic model that you are ready to share through the Emerging Model Program please contact Megan MacBride for more information.
